Bearings are present in many engines. If a bearing fails, the engine will stop operating, and work cannot proceed. To improve the reliability of the engine, efforts must start with the bearings. Next, we will detail the five major measures to improve the reliability of engine bearings.
1. Improve machining accuracy. The machining accuracy of each component of the bearing should be improved to no less than Grade 4 accuracy. Select reasonable clearance and fit values during assembly correctly. During assembly, the bearing should be inspected in accordance with the requirements specified in the special technical conditions, such as appearance inspection to check for surface defects and rust exceeding the specified standards, and recheck the dimensions of the fitting parts and the original clearance.

2. The deflection of the bearing ring relative to the axis should not be excessive. For bearings requiring long service life and high reliability, the deflection of the bearing ring relative to the axis under working conditions must not exceed the allowable standard (for bearings with a service life of more than 1000 hours, the deflection shall not exceed 0.5').
3. Use 3-point contact ball bearings. Replacing 4-point contact ball bearings with 3-point contact radial-thrust ball bearings can improve the reliability of the bearings.
4. Steel cages. Replace bronze cages (commonly used in Russian-made engines) with steel cages, and the surface of the cage should be silver-plated.
5. Temperature difference between inner and outer rings is less than 5℃. If the heat of the bearing can be effectively dissipated and a relatively uniform temperature field is maintained across the width of the bearing and between the outer rings, with the temperature difference between the inner and outer rings not exceeding 5℃, the reliability of the bearing can be improved.
